Cheltenham Festival 2010 - Gold Cup Day
Day 4 - 19th March 2010
Still hungry for more...
It's day four and the day we have all been waiting for, Gold Cup Day!
A cavalry charge begins the day with the Triumph Hurdle, lots of luck required here for all concerned although the field has in recent years been reduced in size for these four year old inexperienced horses.
The County Handicap Hurdle is next up and again a difficult and large field to predict. The last favourite to win was back in 2006 and the five and six year olds have been the most successful in recent years.
Just before the big one we have the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, this years favourite is the unbeaten Tell Massini who is proven over this course and distance. Hot on his heels is Restless Harry who can also boast a Cheltenham win.
The highlight of the Festival, the Cheltenham Gold Cup follows and it seems everyone has an opinion on whether this year is going to be a one horse race, a two horse race or could we are in for a shock!
Kauto Star or Denman, which ever camp you are in both have nothing to prove, Kauto is in top notch form and Denman is one one the best chasers we have seen. Lets just hope for a great race and for all to come home safe and sound.
If you can stand anymore after the Gold Cup it's the Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup which has seen some big priced winners in past years with six of the last nine winners going off at more than 14/1.
A new race last year in honour of Martin Pipe, The Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle follows.
The last race of the day and the Festival is the Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup, this race is named after trainer Nicky Hendersons Father and as such he pulls out all the stops to win it each year. He last won in 2006 with Greenhope.
