The Bahrain Grand Prix first took place in 2004, and is held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Bahrain. It is made famous by the fact it was the first race ever to take place in the middle-east.
A criticism of the course is the giant run-off areas, which do not punish drivers who fail to stay on the track. However this also improves safety, as braking on gravel or sand is incredibly difficult.
Despite alcoholic beverages being legal in Bahrain, as well as dozens of other Muslim countries, the drivers don't spray champagne on the podium. Instead, they spray a non-alcoholic rosewater drink known as Waard.
