The European Grand Prix was reintroduced into the formula 1 calendar in the mid 1980's, it first began in 1923 the host being Italy and the circuit at Monza. When the race began it was designated to one of the countries that held a Grand Prix, it was considered an honor to be choosen as the host.
In 1998 the race did not go ahead but returned in 1999 to the Nürburgring where it has been held every year since. In it's history Michael Schumacher has been the driver with the most wins and Ferrari the constructors.
The race is now set to run for the next seven years and from 2008 the venue will be Valencia in Spain.
Because of the nature of the track, it has plenty of passing opportunities making it very fast with cars being able to reach 300km/hr we could well be in for an interesting race in 2008. However for all the teams it is a case of into the unknown. The Williams team always seem to do well at new venues so they will be hoping their repuation continues here. Lewis Hamilton knows the city well but like all the teams everyone will be working flat out to try to judge the set up of their cars and work out a race statergy for the first ever race on this circuit.
Being a new circuit for everyone it is a hard race to call, look closley at the three free practice sessions ahead of qualifying to see how the teams perform, they will be working hard at trying to get a good set up, this will be the only time the teams get before qualifying to get it right .
