The French Grand Prix takes place at Magny Cours every year, and apart from one year (1955) the French Grand Prix has been present in the calender every single season since the inception of Formula One in 1950.
Grand Prix Motor Racing actually originates from France, and the first ever official Grand Prix was held in France in 1906.
The 2004 and 2005 races scheduled for Magny Cours were in doubt because of financial problems and the addition of new circuits to the Formula One calendar. These races went ahead as planned, but the French Grand Prix still has an uncertain future, despite the history involved.
On 31st May 2007, Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that the 2007 French Grand Prix would be the last to be held at Magny-Cours. However, since then it has been agreed that the venue will host the race until 2009.
