The Monaco Grand Prix is widely considered as one of the most prestigious and most important events in world motorsport. Indeed, it is considered part of the "Triple Crown of Motorsport", which also consists of the Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours. Graham Hill is the only man ever to win all three of these races (five times Monaco winner).
The race is held on the very narrow streets of Monte Carlo, with many undulations and tight corners. This makes it a great test of driver skill.
Construction of grandstands, barriers and other safety features before the race takes six weeks, and three weeks after the race to remove. It is widely considered that if it were not already on the calender with such a rich history, the race would not be allowed to go ahead.
Ayrton Senna holds the record for most Monaco wins, with six (1987, 1989-1993).
