The Turkish Grand Prix is a fairly new race, making its debut on the F1 calendar as recently as 2005. The race is held at the new Istanbul Park circuit, designed by world-renowned circuit designer Hermann Tilke. The Istanbul Park track is one of only three anti-clockwise tracks on the calendar, along with Imola and Interlagos.
The circuit takes an influence from many of the worlds best race tracks. The first corner is very similar to corner one at Interlagos, Brazil and has also been compared to the "corkscrew" at Laguna Seca. There is a flat-out kink on a hill similar to Eau Rouge corner at Spa-Francorchamps; fans have jokingly referred to this as "Faux Rouge."
