The 2000 Guineas is held at Newmarket racecourse in late April early May on the Rowley Mile course.

It is one of five British classic races and although eligible fillies very rarely take part.

Because the race is run so early in the season it can be quite difficult to judge any form of the runners, usually punters look for the previous form from the 2 year olds.

Run over a distance of 1 mile the race gets its name from the original prize money 2000 Guineas which is worth approx £110,000 today.

Betting Tips For The 2000 Guineas

• Look to last years good two year olds as they will be the ones in contention here, you are looking for horses that ran good mile races as a two year old.
• Horses that have experience of this course is always a good judge.
• As last years runners are not eligable look to trainers who have a good record in this race such as Aidan O'Brien and Sir Michael Stoute.
• Many trainers prefer lightly raced horses for this event so dont rule out one raced horses from any of the top yards.
• Favourites do not have a good record in this race with only one favourite winning in the last ten years.
• Look at horses that were placed in their previous run as the last ten winners were all placed and eight out of ten won their previous race.
• Seven out of the past ten winners were from a double figure stall
• Eight out of ten previous winners went off at 10/1 or less
