Ayr Gold Cup

The Ayr Gold Cup is Scotland's biggest racing day. It is part of a festival of racing that covers three days, the gold cup being on the last day. Held at the most beautiful Ayr racecourse it produces one of the UKs biggest betting turnovers and is the richest sprint handicap in Europe.

Six furlongs is the distance that the three year olds have to cover and it really is a mad dash to the finish, it has in the past produced some very exciting finishes.Racing fans from far and wide converge on this meeting and it has good TV coverage, so if you cant be there in person tune in to cheer your horse to the finish.

From a betting point of view it is interseting to note that the well known trainer David Nicholls has had winners in this race four times since the year 2000.

The ground and the draw play an important part in picking the winner of this race so it seems it pays to consider this when placing your bet, horses that are drawn low run on the far side while horses drawn high run on the stands side. Some people believe that this doesn't make any difference but obviously you need to consider everything when picking your winner.

Three of the last four winners were all drawn under ten, so a bit of a mixed bag there in recent years.

Because the race is hard to judge there is usually some good odds available even for the front runners, infact the average winning odds are 18/1 so do your home work and you could be in with a great win.
