The Classic Trial is held at Sandown racecourse, and is part of the meeting in April that hosts both Flat and National Hunt races.
It is a grade 3 flat race that is run over one mile two furlongs. Open to horses of three years of age it has a history going back to 1953.
The race used to known as the Royal Stakes and is considered a trial for the forth coming Epsom Derby.
