First run in 1886, the Coral Eclipse Stakes is named after an 18th century horse called Eclipse and has been sponsored by Coral for many years.

The race is open to thoroughbreds of 3 years and over and is 1 mile and 2 furlongs in length. The venue is the award winning Sandown racecourse in Surrey which has a long and distinguished past.

The race gives the best three year olds a chance to race against their older counterparts and a weight allowance is given to the young three year olds to make for a fair and evenly matched race.

Trends for the Coral Eclipse

The age of the winner has been evenly spread out over the past ten years, with the three year olds having a weight allowance, it is difficult to gain any trends form the three, four and five years olds here.
Trainers Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor have the best winning record here, with two wins each from the past ten years.
Jockey Frankie Dettori has the most wins here in the past ten years with two winners although Michael Kinane holds the record with three wins in all.
