The Independent Novices Chase is part of Cheltenham racecourse Open meeting, a grade two race open to horses of four years of age and above although only one four year old has won here since 1988, it has a race distance of two miles.
The Open meeting marks the start of the jumps season, it is attended by all the best jumps horses from Europe and is always popular with National Hunt fans. The Novice Chase is run on the last day of this three day meeting.
