The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville, Kentucky, at Churchill Downs racecourse, traditionally on the first Saturday in May, and is part of a two week festival.
It is run over ten furlongs and is the first part of the American Triple Crown of racing, Colts and geldings carry 126 pounds (57.2 kg) and fillies 121 pounds (54.9 kg).
Known as the worlds most famous horse race, Americas best three year old Thorough-breds all contest this event for the title.
Picking the winner here can seem an impossible task and the first thing to think about is that the favourite does not always win!
