The Pierse Hurdle is run at Leopardstown racecourse in January. It has a racing distance of two miles and is for four year old horses and above. The race is always massively competitive, with favourites often going off at prices of 5/1 and above.

It is one of the bigger handicap hurdle races in Ireland, and some of the horses will be aimed at the big handicaps at Cheltenham in March.

It may well pay to find an improver down the odds and back each way, as there is always a placed horse at odds of 20/1 plus, and even a 100/1 placed in 2007.
