Supreme Novices Hurdle

The Supreme Novices Hurdle kicks off the Cheltenham Festival In March, it is open to four year old novice horses and above.

Racing distance is two miles half a furlong being run on the old course at Prestbury Park, it has eight hurdles and is the oldest of the two novices' hurdle events at Cheltenham dating back to 1945.

Quite hard to pick the winner here, you will usually find that the ante post odds can fluctuate quite a bit in the build up to the race and not many winners here have gone on to make big names for themselves.

With regard to the favourites in the past there has been little evidence to suggest that they do better than the outsiders. Flat bred horses have a good record here too.

The Irish trained horses have a great winning record here and this was shown last year when Ebaziyan came home in style at odds odds of 40/1 so dont be afraid to consider any of the Irish contenders at a bigger price.

Nevertheless it remains a very popular and massive betting event, because it is the first race of the festival the winner is guaranteed a roar from the massive crowd as they pass the winning post.
