The Tolworth Hurdle is run in January at Sandown Park racecourse, it is a National Hunt race which covers a distance of two miles half a furlong with eight hurdles to jump.
Open to five year old and above novice horses the Tolworth has a good history of unearthing Sun Alliance Hurdle winners, it is a race that is contested by some of the years finest all wanting to add their names to the list of past winners which has included the lengendary Dessert Orchid.
The race has seen some fantastic renewals, probably the most famous in 2000 when Monsignor a Sun Alliance winner went on to beat Best Mate here. As you can see by the previous winners table below, the top stables havea great record here, with the likes of Nicholls, Pipe and Jonjo O'Neill sharing the spoils recently.
