Last Ran: 13th May 2009
Equiano looks set to line up as leading fancy in the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes on Wednesday, he is trained by Barry Hills who's stable is in terrific form at the moment. A Group one winner, he made his seasonal return in April to come runner up to fellow contender here Tax Free. You can back Equiano at 5/1 with Paddy Power.
Tax Free 11/2, trained by David Nicholls is certainly a consistant sort who is maturing into a great sprinter, he loves this distance, there is no reason why he shouldn't run close. It will be interesting to see the two battle it out again.
However this is not a two horse race, there are others who could prevail here including Sir Gerry 7/1 trained by James Fanshawe, this is a very smart colt that is usually somewhere in the mix, he makes his return to work here.
Others of interest are Arganil 14/1who has won six of his nine starts and Knot In Wood 25/1 who came third to Equiano and Tax Free in April, the Irish raiders are Dohasa 20/1, Duff 18/1 and Rock Of Rochelle.
Hitchens 8/1has been supplemented, he goes for his new trainer David Barron after beating Knot In Wood at Thirsk while King's Apostle 12/1 lines up with top weight after winning the Diadem Stakes last year, he is not to be discounted and could be a nice each way.
