Amour Propre, trained by Henry Candy goes to Ascot as the favourite for the 2009 Kings Stand Stakes, this three year old speedster won the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket at the beginning of May. The plan was then to go on to the Temple Stakes ahead of here but was withdrawn due to rain and the soft ground.
He was a very progressive two year old that won the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at the end of the season and looks set to back this up as a three year old.
Scenic Blast arrived from Austraia at the end of May in preparation for this race, this five year old is a duel Group 1 winner in Australia having scored in the Coolmore Lightning Stakes and the Newmarket Handicap both at Flemington. Should he win here he will be on track for a 1.3 million Global Sprint Challenge bonus, he is a serious contender that has to be considered.
Fleeting Spirit will make her reapperance, she came third here last year after winning the Temple Stakes beating Borderlescott in the process. Borderlescott is the star of his yard, trained by Robin Bastiman he is a strong contender here.
He came third to Amour Propre in the Palace House Stakes and went one better last time out in the Temple Stakes. He had a great season last year scoring in the Nunthorpe Stakes and a third in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp.
Other interesting contenders include Tax Free a recent French Group 2 winner, Kingsgate Native and Equiano.
