Last Ran: 17th January 2009
The Blue Square Novices Hurdle, registered as the Rossington Main runs on Saturday 17th January at Haydock racecourse.
Paul Nicholls has Mahonia who has had a terrifc start and arrives here after coming runner up at Cheltenham in December in a decent Novice Hurdle. He had previously won his hurdle debut at Exeter. Up in grade here but a good strong jumper that looks impressive.
Dee Ee Williams looks set to be a popular bet and could well be the one to spoil it for Mahonia. This six year old won his hurdling debut at Cheltenham in October and backed this up to make it two out of two in November at Ascot. He stepped up in grade for the Grade 2 Kennel Gate in December and didn't disgrace to get home runner up. A fancied contender for Cheltenham he is held in high regard and should deliver a solid run here.
Clay Hollister, trained by Nicky Henderson turned up at Sandown in December after twenty two months off to score in a novice hurdle. Early days to make judgement yet but the Henderson horses are in fine form so it would be great to see a good run from this one.
