This years Triumph Hurdle looks even more difficult to predict than usual, nothing springs out as outstanding with ante post favourite Mille Chief missing from the line up due to lameness.

This paved the way for Edward O'Grady's Alaivan to take favouritism. A decent flat performer who has had three shots over hurdles taking the win on two occasions but having to settle for second best to fellow contender Carlito Brigante on his second attempt.

Carlito Brigante was well beaten on his hurdle debut in November but since then has got his act together and is currently three from three. He has displayed solid jumping, finishes his race strongly and should get conditions to suit at Cheltenham.

Willie Mullin's Secant Star has suffered a minor set back in his preparation's for this race after taking a knock but reports from his camp suggest all is now fine and he is back on track. A faller at the last when clear of the rest on his debut in December but made amends a month later by easily winning at Gowran Park.

Nicky Henderson won here twelve months ago with Zaynar and his biggest hope this year is in the shape of Soldatino who won the Grade 2 Adonis Hurdle at Kempton at the end of February.
