World Snooker has targeted China as a country with huge potential to help develop the sport, with much of the interest centred around world number nine Ding Junhui who comes from the Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai.

The Shanghai Masters is the first world ranking event of the season and the best players in the world battle it out for the title and valuable ranking points. In the last year or two there's been a bit of a changing of the guard in snooker with many new names coming to the fore.
