Federer ended French dreams of a home win when he beat Gael Monfils 7-6 (8/6) 6-2 6-4. He looked to be at his brilliant best here.

Not dropping his serve throughout the match, he must now believe that the one Grand Slam title that has eluded him so far is within his grasp and which will make him only the sixth man ever to win all four majors.

However before we can think about the final he has Juan Martin Del Potro to deal with. He beat Tommy Robredo in the last round to get here 6-3 6-4 6-2. This is a career best for Del Potro having never reached a Grand Slam semi final before.

The two players have met on five occasions, with Federer taking them all, infact Del Potro has never taken a set from Federer.

With the shock exits of Nadal, Djokovic and Murray one cannot help but dream that Federer will not only get through this match but take the title as well, if he achieves this feat he will write tennis history by equaling Pete Sampras all-time record of 14 Grand Slam singles titles.
