Match Date: 28th January 2010

Marin CilicAndy Murray

Andy Murray produced what can only be described as one of the best performaces of his career against defending Champion Rafael Nadal to book his place in the semi final.

Not the blockbuster we were expecting with the match ending after Nadal sadly retired with joint problems. Not the way Murray would have liked to get through to the last four but all credit to the Scot who looked mightily comfortable throughout. He continues to play some sensational tennis and is still to lose a set in this tournament.

Croatian Marin Cilic is next up for Murray after beating Andy Roddick in a real five set epic that finished 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 3-6 2-6 6-3 and took just short of four hours. This is Cilic's first semi final, he is the youngest player remaining at just twenty one year of age.

Cilic has had some tough matches this tournment having been taken to five sets for the third time in four matches. One must wonder how much he has in reserve to go any further but he has beaten Murray before in September in the fourth round of the US Open so until proven otherwise it would be foolish to believe this match will be a walk in the park for Murray.

Before losing out in September Murray had beaten Cilic in all their previous three encounters, he is fresh and most people agree is playing his best tennis ever in this tournament, he has proved himself too hot to handle and will need to continue at fever pitch for just a tad longer if he is to take that long awaited Grand Slam title.
