Match Date: 6th September 2008

Roger FedererTommy Robredo

A rematch of last years final awaits us here, then it was Federer who prevailed but a lot has happened since then, this has not been Federers year to say the least,he has lost to players he should have won easily, and just hasnt seemed the Roger Federer we knew last year. He lost to Djokovic in the Australian Open semi finals and to Nadal in the final at Wimbledon, on top of that he lost his world number one ranking to Nadal last month.

Djokovic it seems is battling injury problems, he came through a five setter aginst Tommy Robredo but looked in obvious discomfort, calling the trainer to help deal with a host of injury problems. His last match against Roddick in the quarter final ended 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), after some squabbling between the players. Djocovic loked very agitated at times in this match, he was booed into the semis by the crowd and took offence to coments made by Roddick.

This is Federers last chance to salvage something from this season, he will surely be coming out all guns blazing, a lot is at stake and the pressure is on, he may not be playing his best but there are still glimpses of the Federer we knew last year, he has a record of 6-2 against Djokovic, and he has a talent for coming up with somthing special when the scores are tight. I really cant see Federer letting this one go easily.

Review

Federer was back to his best for this one and dispatched Djokovic 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 to book his place in his fifth successive US Open Final.

The only question remaining for Federer is can he make it five US Open wins in a row?

Rain stopped play in the other semi-final and so his opponent is not known at the time of writing.
