So far so good for Federer in this years Olympics, although he has shown a few weaknesses in his previous matches. His last match against Arevalo who is ranked 447th in the world should have been a breeze for Federer but he made quite a few mistakes and seemed in a hurry to get off court.

Federer has a good record over Berdych, his next opponent but the one time that Berdych got the upperhand was four years ago in the Athens Olympics and Berdych will be going into this match with the confidence that he can do it again.

There was to be not repeat of Berdych's 2004 Olympic victory over Federer this time as Federer won through a fairly tough encounter 6-3 7-6 (7-4).
