Match Date: 14th August 2008

Beijing Olympics 2008
Federer put to rest the ghosts of four years ago by beating Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-3, 7-6 (4) the player who knocked him in the second round of Athens Olympics in the second round. A far cry from the tears he shred then, he was openly pleased with this win, punching the air and showing some of the usual sparkle we have come to associate with the mighty Federer. This win was the first real test of the tournament so far and Federer upped his game in response.
He will now meet the ever patriotic James Blake of the USA, the only American still surviving in the singles at Beijing. He has had a great tournament so far reaching the quarter finals by beating No. 10 Gilles Simon of France 6-4, 6-2. His record against Federer however is poor having never won a match out of eight meetings so he will have to produce somthing rather special here. It is looking ever more like a Federer v Nadal Olympic final may be on the cards.

Review
James Blake finally got one over on Roger Federer to add more misery to what had already been a very disappointing year for Federer by beating him 6-4 7-6.
