Match Date: 2nd September 2008

Robredo has not had the best of seasons this year but he does have a good record at Flushing Meadows, never a winner here but has made the fourth round on four occasions. His poor performance this year coupled with the fact hard courts do nothing for his game, it is hard to see him progressing any further.
Djokovic was runner up in the final last year, his draw here seemed a dream but he had problems with Croatian Marin Cilic in the third round taking three hours and fifty two minutes to end the Croatians 2008 US Open 6-7 (7/9), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7/0). Djokovic admitted that this had been a tough match, he will now have to concentrate to come back fresh and well for the fourth round.
Difficult to see any other winner here other than Djokovic, the odds say it all.

Review
Not quite as easy for Djokovic as the pre-match odds suggested but he eventually won through in five sets - 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
