Match Date: 3rd September 2008

Roddick continues his progression through the rounds of this years US Open in a quest to regain the title he won in 2003. He has made a great start here and is in terrrific form with his usual powerful serve giving him easy control over the matches he has played so far. With no signs of his shoulder injury which saw him withdraw from the French Open earlier in the year, he will be going all out for his second Grand Slam title.
Gonzalez lost the gold medal match with Nadal at this years Olympics, often underestimated,he has great speed around the court matched with an ability to produce some of the heaviest shots around today. He has infact won many of the big names including Federer, Nadal, Agassi and Sampras. Perhaps a negative is that he is prone to making unforced errors and there will be no place for these in a match against Roddick.
The odds here are a little short for Roddick, again Gonzalez has been underestimated, he has beaten many number one players, he has the ability, he has come out of the Olympics on a high, he has worked on his unforced errors and has a variety of shots that enable him to match the best of players. Although Roddick has a 7-4 lead on the head to head stats I feel that this match is one for Gonzalez.

Review
This one turned out to be a fairly comfortable straight sets win for Roddick as he brushed Gonzales aside 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
