Betting and Gaming Council to Replace the ABB and the RGA
The Association of British Bookmakers and the Remote Gambling Association have joined forces to form a new operator body that will act as the voice of the UK betting industry, called Betting and Gaming Council.
The Betting and Gaming Council intends to be fully operational by this autumn, with the main goal of ensuring that bookmakers and online casino operators offer players an entertaining and safe gambling experience.
The Betting and Gaming Council
The newly formed Betting and Gaming Council will replace for the Association of British Bookmakers and the Remote Gambling Association, two bodies that together count over 100 operators as their members, ranging from listed corporations to independent bookmakers.
The Remote Gambling Association, the body formed thanks to the merger of Interactive Gaming, Gambling and Betting Association in 2005 and the Association of Remote Gambling Operators. Association of British Bookmakers’ chair Paul Darling said that they welcome the creation of the Betting and Gaming Council as it would enable the sharing of the fairest and best practice across the industry and would significantly increase the innovation capability on new safer gambling measures.
All online casino and betting operators with a UK license would be able to become members since the Council will represent over 90% of the gambling sector, lotteries excluded. They would be required to uphold the highest operational standards and adhere to the new code.
The Council would be led by the current Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, Brigit Simmons OBE. Simmons has held this position for ten years and has previously chaired the Tourism Alliance, the Sport England Lottery Panel and has been a trustee of GambleAware. In 2006, she was also named an Officer of the British Empire.
Remote Gambling Association chair John Coates, who’s also the co-CEO at Bet365 praised Simmons, saying that she had an outstanding track record in her career, adding that he was certain she would drive cooperation across the industry on safer gambling initiatives in moments when safer gambling continues to come Betting and Gaming Council to Replace for the ABB and the RGA together to collectively handle the challenges it faces. Association of British Bookmakers’ chair Paul Darling also said that Simmons’ credentials within the Beer & Pub Association spoke for themselves, adding that she would bring great insight to the new Betting and Gambling Association as it focuses on building the trust of the public in gambling.
Simmons OBE’s Statement
The new Betting and Gaming Council’s chair Simmons said that she would be listening to all stakeholders to ensure that the Council was leading the industry in identifying effective measures to protect players.
She added that she firmly believed the UK regulated gambling industry should be recognized as the world-leading safe gambling industry.
